To all loyal Canna Boss customers : As a result of the heavy handed tactics of the Toronto Police force, we have been forced into eviction from our current location. Though the media attention grabbing raids in May have subsided, the strategy of the Toronto Police had simply shifted to be that of a more sustained yet less sensational strategy. Through relentless (albeit smaller) raids on Toronto Dispensaries, they have been able to force the closure of a significant number of medical marijuana dispensaries across the GTA. The dispensaries (us included) that have been able to weather the sustained pressure from the Toronto Police have had these tactics in pressure increased to include landlords and property owners through threats and intimidation. Letters with increasingly threatening tone and borderline illegal stature and intimidation were regularly sent to landlords and property owners of dispensaries. It is through these unsubstantiated, heavy handed “bully” letters that we are forced to close our doors at our current location. Throughout the GTA, many of these tactics appear to be working for the Toronto Police. Though actually […]

PUBLIC STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE DISSEMINATION Toronto, Ontario, May 27, 2016 – The Toronto Dispensary Coalition today announced that Toronto police raided numerous medical cannabis dispensaries throughout the city yesterday. Staff at many of the dispensaries were arrested and charged by police with alleged trafficking offences. There are reports that hundreds of police officers, who normally work in other areas, including human trafficking investigations, were pulled off their important work to participate in the raids. Many dispensary staff who were charged by police are known to have good hearts and care about helping their patients. These staff typically pay income taxes, CPP and EI premiums on the wages they earn while working at dispensaries. It is grossly unfair that these mostly young, hard-working people who have now lost their jobs will end up with criminal records – for taking jobs doing something that they believe in. The large majority of dispensaries serve high-quality medical cannabis products to patients in Toronto and across Canada. Many of these dispensaries’ patients have had their constitutional right to medical cannabis restricted yesterday. All dispensaries of […]
In light of the recent raids on a large number of dispensaries in Toronto yesterday it is becoming clear, after the dust has settled and we can look objectively on the entire scenario that has played out from start to finish, that the definition and expectations of the role of our municipal elected officials is skewed, completely malformed and out of touch with reality. In a democratic society, the voice of the many is supposed to dictate policy, process framework, laws and actions derivative of such policies. Public opinion, as in this case, plays a nominal role and is usually reserved for after-the-fact hindsight analysis after the damage has already been done. Look at the history of politics and policing in Ontario and you can see time and time again examples of rush-to-judgement politics and minimal oversight police policies. Leadership in our government should include the basic expectation of an informed, methodical and calm approach to policy enforcement. Our voices of concern will only grow louder when exceptional and sensational actions like those taken yesterday by the Toronto Police. In […]
On Thursday May 26th a significant number of Medical Marijuana dispensaries were raided by the Toronto Police force. In many instances the raids were conducted on closed businesses. Many of the businesses were closed willingly in response to letters mailed to the landlords of the dispensaries on May 18th 2016. In most (if not all) of the instances of forceful raids by Toronto police, property damage, heavy handed tactics including tactics usually reserved for illegal drug raids were used. No consideration was made to differentiate between dispensaries who followed the letter of the law and possessed legal licenses and only sold product to those possessing medical prescriptions. This petition is intended to not only raise awareness of the overly zealous and indiscriminate actions of the City of Toronto, under direction of Mayor John Tory but to draw parallels to previous instances of over zealous, over eager and borderline illegal targeting of businesses and citizens in the interest of a quick and inexpensive fix. During the 2010 G20 summit in Toronto, tactics similar in nature and spirit were taken by the […]
Hello! There is a very interesting article in the National Post about a poll that reflects the attitude of the majority of Ontario voters being favorable to pot dispensaries over LCBO “nanny state” control. Ontario Voter Poll for Marijuana Legalization
